Day three digest: Belgian Knockout

The Belgian Knockout reached the head to head stages on day three and there were thrills, spills and roars galore at Rinkven International Golf Club.

Here is everything you need to know from Saturday in Antwerp.

Wiesberger at it again

Thought yesterday's comeback was good? You aint seen nothing yet. After sneaking into the weekend by one shot after going 76-64 on days one and two, Bernd Wiesberger showed all his class in the knockout stages. He was nine under for his 27 holes and looked largely unruffled even when Daniel Gavins finished birdie-birdie-birdie in the last-16. After not playing for seven months last season due to a wrist injury, the Austrian could have two wins in seven days on Sunday.

Green for go

With the tree lined layout at Rinkven, you would not expect a big hitter like Gavin Green to be one to watch but he was spectacular on Saturday. The Malaysian made just one bogey in 27 holes and had to show real guts in front of a raucous local crowd to beat home hero Thomas Detry by one shot in the last-16. The former Asian Tour Number One has been knocking on the door for a while and it would be no surprise if he claims a first European Tour title.

Road to redemption

Grégory Havret and Marcel Siem have been stars on the European Tour for a long time with 957 appearances and seven wins between them but they both entered this season without full playing privileges. A win on Sunday would solve that problem and they will go head to head in the quarter-finals. Havret sandwiched an impressive victory over number one seed Chris Paisley with two grinding wins on day three, while Siem demolised Rikard Karlberg by seven shots in the last-32. They are both already guaranteed a best result of the season so far but how far can they go?

Thomas loves Thomas

Thomas Pieters did not make the weekend so it was left to Thomas Detry to fly the flag for the host nation and he did them proud, making the last-16. He had a big crowd following his every move and, inbetween commentary stints, it included Pieters.

Play-off drama

The Belgian Knockout always produces some spectacular play-offs and got off to a flying start on Saturday, with David Law making an eagle on the fourth extra hole in the last-64 to better Ben Evans' birdie. Law would eventually be eliminated in a last-16 play-off by Guido Migliozzi having faced 33 holes over the day. Antoine Rozner and Renato Paratore needed four holes to decide their last-32 tie, with Rozner prevailing having missed a two foot putt for victory on the third extra hole. It's never dull.
