As part of our ambition to Drive Golf Further and build a sustainable future for the sport and our Tour, we want to encourage people from all walks of life to play, support or work in this great game. We are using our significant global reach, and our close relationships with other stakeholders, to break down barriers or misconceptions that might be stopping someone from enjoying the many physical and mental health benefits golf can bring.
Key projects include the Tour’s financial and operational support of the G4D Tour (Golf for the Disabled) and our continued collaboration with the women’s game where we have created innovative mixed gender tournaments, such as the Volvo Car Scandinavian Mixed and the ISPS Handa World Invitational presented by AVIV Clinics.
Golf as a Game for All: The G4D Tour
The G4D Tour (Golf for the Disabled) launched in February 2022 in partnership with the European Disabled Golfers Association (EDGA), with seven events held at the DP World Tour’s highest profile tournaments. By playing on the same course, the same week, as abled bodied professionals, the G4D Tour is making a profound statement that golfers with a disability deserve the same recognition as their able-bodied counterparts. The series is also open to all genders – further breaking down barriers.
Through our Golf for Good initiative, we have also committed to a financial support package which will see EDGA move from a volunteer led organisation to a semi-professional one. We are also providing new funds to help players with their accommodation and travel costs.
Bringing the Men’s and Women’s Game Closer Together
The European Tour group has pioneered new tournament formats that engage new fans and widen the sports appeal. This includes the DP World Tour developing, in partnership with the leading professional Tours for women, co-sanctioned events that see male and female professional golfers compete head-to-head on the same course.
The Volvo Car Scandinavian Mixed, first played in 2020 as a co-sanctioned event with the Ladies European Tour, saw the first female golfer win on the DP World Tour in 2022. Swede Linn Grant took the title with a stunning nine-shot victory.
The DP World Tour has also worked with the LPGA Tour and Ladies European Tour to run the ISPS Handa World Invitational presented by AVIV Clinics. This unique event is tri-sanctioned with two tournaments running concurrently, with men and women playing on the same course for an equal prize fund.
